How nakshatras are used in a kundli
The 27 nakshatras divide the full zodiac into equal arcs of 13°20'. Every planet occupies one, but the Moon's birth nakshatra receives special attention because it establishes the starting point of the Vimshottari dasha sequence. The result is more precise than treating a whole 30-degree rashi as a single expression.
A nakshatra is not interpreted from a list of personality traits alone. Its planetary ruler, deity, symbol, temperament and four padas provide different layers. Astrologers then check the house occupied by the planet, the condition of the nakshatra lord and repeated themes elsewhere in the chart.
Start with the entry for your Moon's nakshatra, then compare its ruling graha and the rashi containing the exact degree. Use the descriptions as reference material, not as stand-alone predictions.

- Ashwini Ketu · Aries Ashwini is the sky's starting gun. Its people move first and think while moving — quick to begin, quick to heal, quick to lose patience with anything slow.
- Bharani Venus · Aries Bharani carries things through thresholds — birth, death, transformation. It holds pressure well and is unafraid of what other people avoid.
- Krittika Sun · Aries Krittika cuts. It separates the real from the false, which makes its people superb critics and uncomfortable flatterers.
- Rohini Moon · Taurus Rohini is the sky's most fertile ground — the Moon's favourite place. It grows things, and it wants them beautiful.
- Mrigashira Mars · Taurus Mrigashira is the search itself. Its people are curious, gentle and perpetually scanning for something just past the horizon.
- Ardra Rahu · Gemini Ardra is the storm that clears the air. It breaks what was stale, and the person living it often has to survive their own weather first.
- Punarvasu Jupiter · Gemini Punarvasu is return and renewal — the light that comes back. Its defining quality is the ability to begin again without bitterness.
- Pushya Saturn · Cancer Pushya is the most nourishing nakshatra — traditionally the most auspicious of all. It feeds, protects and steadies whatever it touches.
- Ashlesha Mercury · Cancer Ashlesha sees through people. It is the sky's most penetrating and least naive placement, and it holds what it learns close.
- Magha Ketu · Cancer Magha sits on inherited ground. Lineage, ancestry and legacy matter here more than personal novelty.
- Purva Phalguni Venus · Leo Purva Phalguni is rest, pleasure and creative play — the part of life that exists to be enjoyed rather than justified.
- Uttara Phalguni Sun · Leo Uttara Phalguni is the promise kept. It turns friendship and generosity into structure — contracts, marriages, institutions.
- Hasta Moon · Virgo Hasta is skill in the hands. Whatever it touches becomes more precise, and it can make something out of very little.
- Chitra Mars · Virgo Chitra builds beautiful things. It is the architect's star — design sense joined to structural understanding.
- Swati Rahu · Libra Swati is independence. Like a blade of grass in wind, it survives by bending, and it insists on standing separately.
- Vishakha Jupiter · Libra Vishakha is goal-directed fire. It fixes on an aim and does not let go, often arriving right after the point most people quit.
- Anuradha Saturn · Scorpio Anuradha builds loyalty across distance and difficulty. It is the most socially capable part of Scorpio — devotion without naivety.
- Jyeshtha Mercury · Scorpio Jyeshtha is seniority and its cost. It carries responsibility, protects others, and is quietly lonely doing it.
- Mula Ketu · Scorpio Mula digs to the root and pulls. It dismantles inherited assumptions, which is painful and is also the point.
- Purva Ashadha Venus · Sagittarius Purva Ashadha is invincible conviction. It persuades, it does not concede, and it renews itself like water.
- Uttara Ashadha Sun · Sagittarius Uttara Ashadha is the win that lasts. Slower than Purva Ashadha and far more permanent — victory built on legitimacy.
- Shravana Moon · Capricorn Shravana listens. Knowledge arrives here through hearing and transmission — the student who becomes the authority.
- Dhanishta Mars · Capricorn Dhanishta keeps time. It is rhythm, wealth and group performance — the ability to make many people move together.
- Shatabhisha Rahu · Aquarius Shatabhisha is the veil and what is behind it. Healing, secrecy and systems thinking meet in an unusually private mind.
- Purva Bhadrapada Jupiter · Aquarius Purva Bhadrapada burns off illusion. It holds intense, sometimes extreme, spiritual and intellectual fire.
- Uttara Bhadrapada Saturn · Pisces Uttara Bhadrapada is the calm underneath. Deep, steady and quietly wise — the most peaceful placement in the zodiac.
- Revati Mercury · Pisces Revati is safe passage. The last nakshatra — it completes journeys and sees others home.
Nakshatras are listed by the sign their first pada falls in; several straddle a sign boundary.
